How to Write a Book Fast
If you want to make money writing and self publishing then you need to be able to write quickly and use your time as productively as possible.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re writing a novel or a non-fiction book, when it comes to self publishing time is money. Once you’ve discovered the best writing routine to suit your lifestyle and how much time you have, there’s no reason why not, by this time next year, you’re the author of at least 6 self-published books.
With today’s modern technology, the costs of self publishing are minimal and you can also publish your books online as eBooks as well as using the internet the market your books all over the world.
But none of this is going to be possible unless you know how to write a book fast!
Before you begin writing, you need to know what it is you’re going to write.
You need to have an idea of the topic you’re going to be writing about. This topic needs to be something you’re passionate about, or you have a lot of knowledge about.
Now decide how long you want your book to be, perhaps 200 to 300 pages is a good number.
Breaking that down into chapter will make it 20 to 30 chapters.
So you need 20 to 30 topics – one for each chapter. Write 3 to 5 more topics than you need. Even if you can’t think of more topics off-hand, think really hard and you’ll discover some more.
On the other hand, if you find you have much more than 20 to 30 topics, then you obviously have enough ideas for a second book. So don’t cut back on the number of topics, put them to one side ready for you next book.
Once you have all your topics, set them out in order in the correct order of Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.
Now lose the extra 3 to 5 topics. Decide which are not really strong topics and won’t be able to be a chapter on their own, and delete them. They may not be the same 3 to 5 topics that you added to your list, in fact, you may be surprised at which ones you drop.
Next write 10 to 15 points that you want to cover for each topic.
Turn each point into a question that you need to answer for your reader. The reason for doing this is that it’s easier to answer a question than to justify a statement.
Now you’re going to start writing. Begin by answering each question quickly, without stopping, in a 5 to 7 minute burst. In 5 to 7 minutes you should be able to write one page in answer to each question. You may not want to answer them in order, and that’s OK, because you’ll find that by writing this way you’ll need to do little, or no, editing because working in short bursts makes you write more succinctly and leaves no room for delaying tactics.
Also, writing this way will enable you to write your book in the shortest time possible.
Say your book is going to have 20 chapters. If you have 10 topics to cover in each chapter, that means you will have 200 questions to answer. If you allow 5 minute bursts of writing to answer each of the 200 questions, it will take you 1,000 minutes to answer all the questions (200 questions X 5 minutes per question).
1,000 minutes ÷60 minutes = 17 hours (almost). So if you write for 1 hour a day, you can finish your book in 17 days.
Now that’s fast.
